Higher Groundz is a locally owned coffee house and eatery located at 3230 Broad St. on the corner of Orcutt St. in San Luis Obispo. For over 6 years we’ve been serving the finest coffee drinks featuring the famous Italian illy espresso, and a great selection of fresh-made pastries, breakfast choices, wraps, salads and sandwiches. Featuring a stage for live performances, catering services, and a great staff to serve you– we’re sure you’ll have a great experience.
History
Our Higher Groundz story began when we opened in the fall of 2002, under the management of Holly Jantzen. In 2004, the owner offered to sell the store to Holly and her husband, Garth along with her parents Craig and Laurie Stewart. The sale went through and since then Holly, Garth, Craig and Laurie have seen Higher Groundz grow to become a great coffee shop that our community has come to love. In 2008 Holly and Garth had a baby boy– Tobin, and Jeremy and Val Sizemore stepped in to manage the store for about 6 months. In May of 2009, Felicia Hesch stepped up to run the store, and has helped add a new flavor to Higher Groundz. Although Holly isn’t seen as much as in the past, you’re bound to run into her as she pops in now and then with Tobin, and you’ll see Craig on Saturday mornings.
